Mon érudition journal de français - by Manas

VOWELS:
Vowels in English are----- a, e, i, o, u
In French there is an addition vowel---- "h" … that means
French vowels are------ a, e, i, o, u, h…

“a” & “an” in English:
In English, for a word starting with a vowel we use “an” --- for e.g.: an apple, an umbrella….etc
In the same way, for a word not starting with a vowel we use “a”---- for e.g.: a boy, a girl…. Etc

In French:
There are two words in French “un” n “une” …
- For a masculine word i.e.(a word not ending with an “e” is a masculine word)… we use “un”
- For a Feminine word i.e. (a word ending with an “e” is a feminine word)…we use “une”..
e.g.
--- Un Stylo (French): A Pen (English), Un Crayon: A Pencil, Un Sac: A Bag …
--- Une Fille (French): A Girl (English), Une Serviette: A Suitcase, Une Gomme: An Eraser…

Exceptions in French:
There are many exceptions in French … that means though the words end in “e” they are taken as masculine’s and vice versa….

E.g.
Un Livre: A Note Book (here though the word livre ends in “e” it takes “un” and thus it is a masculine)

Other exceptions are Un Homme: A Man,
Une Maison: A House (here though the word Maison does not ends in “e” it takes “Une” and thus it is a Feminine)
